Ladies and gentlemen, boys and germs, we have a new leader. All hail the majesty that is Mark Harding.
Kutztown Cross Singlespeed Ring Bologna Championship was a grand ol’ time. More meat than you could shake a stick of meat at. Congrats to Saturday’s Podium of Fatmarc Vanderbacon, Keith Licata, Jeff Appelatns, Rich Dreyer and Mark Harding. On Sunday it was
Mike Yozell, Mark Featherman, Nick Shaffer, MattyB, and Mark Bowman bringing home the meat.
Next up is “SSCX at 5th St Cross” Thursday, Dec. 6th
Backstory: 5StX is where many of the crew you’ve been putting up with got their start in ‘cross. What was once the backyard swagfestival of the Stricklands is now the premier Thursday night cyclocross throwdown of Northern Emmaus.
It’s not an official race. It will be untraditional. There will be shortcuts. There will be handups. There will be special barriers. There will be mayhem. You will have fun or barf trying.
Bring a quality set of lights, a six-pack, $10 for day-of reg ($5 if you need a day-of USAC “non-competitive” license for insurancin’), and have a note from your mom saying you’ll be calling in sick the next day.
The Sunday after is the Limestone Cross at the Kiln. That’s the grand finale, so it’s worth double points. Might want to consider racing your singlespeed in every race that day.
Meanwhile, we’re of to LA-LA Land. Got ourselves a job to do. Stay tuned.
Ride Light. Drink Heavy.
Part 1… The Schedule
9/8: CX Relay, Marysville, PA
10/6: Town Hall, Bethlehem, PA
10/7: IronCross, Michaux State Forest (endurance race, worth multiple points)
11/4: Stoudt’s Brewery, Adamstown, PA
11/11: Crossasaurus Awesome, Spring Mount, PA (extra-special bonus
points to be awarded)
11/17-18: Kutztown Weekend, K’town, PA
12/6 – 5th Street Cross, Emmaus, 6:30pm (bring lights and a six-pack)
12/9: Limestone, Emmaus (Finals, double points)
Some venues will make the SSCX race a special event, while some will
use the same course. Sometimes you’ll find out ahead of time, but more
likely you’ll be surprised when it happens.
Part 2… Scoring
Each event will award points for participating, reaching the podium,
and wearing a costume. Bonus points may be awarded for such things as
“Riding SSCX in a regular race” or for special circumstances (such as
extra-difficult conditions, or special feats of strength). These bonus
points are at the discretion of the organizers, and may be influenced
by suggestion and bribery.
Part 3… Participation
We realize not everybody has a dedicated SSCX rig (yet). If you would
just like to “hop in” for the SSCX race, each venue will have zip ties
and electrical tape available so that your bike can temporarily be
turned into a singlespeed. Once you’ve seen the light, take a look at
our “SSCX How-To” page for ways to turn your bike up to 11 (note: We
don’t recommend the 53:11 as a gear choice, but will award a bonus
point if you use that gearing).
Part 4… Join in on the Fun
Send us your name, club/team name, and some contact info so we can put
you up on the big board. We might need your help with scoring at
events (such as “Hey, I rode my SSCX in the Cat 4 race too!”), so let
us know how you did. And while we never discourage creative cheating,
if we find out you lied to us we’ll give you a handup in front of a
UCI official at the next race.

Hey Drinky! You got my points wrong. Not that I think you will fix them or you are sober enough right now to even read this message. Any way I rode my SS in the 35+ at both Stout’s and Crossasaurus, and I should have gotten a bonus point for each lap at Stout’s. I know. All results are final.
